Dr. Suneetha Kota is working as a Sr. Scientist, Plant breeder in ICAR-IIRR Hyderabad, has working experience of more than 10 years. Recently, Dr. Suneetha Kota has completed her PDF- at IRRI Philippines. Dr. Kota worked on introgression of salinity and drought tolerance into targeted Philippines and Vietnamese popular varieties and was trained at University of York, UK for CRISPR/Cas mediated genome editing (GE) for rice drought and salt tolerance. Earlier she also worked on breeding rice varieties for conservation agriculture which involves development of varieties for direct seeded rice, generation of breeding material for direct seeded rice, standardized the methodology for screening germplasm lines for anaerobic germination and identified donors for anaerobic germination. She was worked on introgression of biotic stresses through MABC pyramiding of blast, BLB, gall midge resistance and genetic enhancement of quality rices. She has the expertise in genetic dissection of complex traits and in the identification of underlying genomic regions associated with stress tolerance and quality traits. Presently working on “Novel Genetic approaches for development of Climate Smart Rice Varieties” with special emphasis on heat and salinity tolerance in rice.
