Seed distribution of DRR Dhan 48 under SC-SP project on 22nd May 2021
DRR Dhan 48, a biofortified rice variety with high zinc (22 and 27 ppm in polished and brown rice respectively) was distributed to ten beneficiaries under SC-SP project in Aroor village, Valigonda Mandal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri District, Telangana on 22nd May 2021. Each farmer was given 30 kg seed. DRR Dhan 48 is a medium slender grain type variety with lustrous golden yellow fine grain, resistance to bacterial leaf blight and moderate resistance to neck blast. Dr Jyothi Badri, Senior Scientist (Plant Breeding) and Dr I. Subhakara Rao, Project Associate-II from ICAR-IIRR distributed the seed coordinated by Mr Tummala Murali and Ms Srujana, farmers of Aroor village. Ms Anjani, AO, Ms Prasanna AEO, Smt. Jayamma, Sarpanch participated in the seed distribution program. Dr Jyothi Badri explained the importance of growing biofortified varieties in general to alleviate malnutrition and described the unique features of DRR Dhan 48 to the farmers. Ms Srujana shared her experiences of cultivating DRR Dhan 48 during kharif 2020 and rabi 2021 and encouraged fellow farmers to take up cultivation of DRR Dhan 48. Pamphlets of DRR Dhan 48 in vernacular language were distributed to the farmers.
