Celebration of 9th International Yoga Day at ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad on 21st June, 2023

International Yoga Day is observed globally every year on 21st June in order to raise awareness about this ancient practice and to celebrate the physical and spiritual prowess that yoga has brought to the world.  This year, the Ministry of AYUSH has introduced the theme "Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (Yoga for the welfare of all in the form of 'One World-One Family'). This theme underscores the essence of Yoga, which fosters unity and inclusivity, encompassing people from all walks of life. ICAR-IIRR organised the event with lot of zeal and enthsiam at the institute premises

The event commenced with a formal welcome address by Dr. Suvarna Rani Ch, followed by an opening remark delivered by Dr. R. Mahendra Kumar, Director (I/c), ICAR-IIRR. Dr. R. M. Kumar emphasized the vital role of yoga in promoting physical and psychological well-being and encouraged for buoyant and enthusiastic participation of Scientific and non-scientific staff to incorporate yoga into their daily lives. Recognizing the holistic benefits of this ancient practice, he stressed its significance in achieving a balanced and harmonious lifestyle.

To illustrate and demonstrate the yogic practices, certified Yoga trainer Smt. Pavitra, who got her post-graduation from Ministry of Ayush participated in the institute as guest of honour. Pavithra spoke about 'The Positive Framework of Meditation'. She began by explaining how negative thoughts disturb a person. Negativity increases the hormonal imbalance in people and thus there is a confusion of thoughts leading to stress. She illustrated the asana and body stretches as per the audience priority and covered simple asanas for all age groups. She promised to help the staff for any specific problems

The function ended with a vote of thanks by Mr S. Amudhan Asst. chief technical officer. The function was attended by Mrs. Sudha Nair Asst. Admin Officer, members of Recreation committee and social media committee along with all the scientists and office staff who put in a lot of effort to make the function a success. Around 250 staff members attended the meeting. At the end of the programme, all the staff took oath to make yoga as a part of their day to day activity for health and happiness. The day came to conclusion with the recitation of Shantimantra

Yoga is not for only one – it’s for everyone,
Yoga is not for a day- it’s for everyday.
