National Science Day
'Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat'

As part of Government of India’s initiative to celebrate February 28 as National Science Day (NSD), ICAR - Indian Institute of Rice Research and National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), Hyderabad Chapter jointly organized the National Science Day with the theme 'Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat' at ICAR-IIRR, Hyderabad on 28.02.2024.
The aim of the event was to inspire students and motivate them to consider agricultural science education as one of their career options. Approximately 250 students from eight schools participated in this programme. The event commenced with a visit to the ICAR-IIRR Museum, where students were sensitized about the ICAR-IIRR released varieties, hybrids and rice-based technologies. Following this, students visited different stalls put up by various disciplines such as Entomology, Plant Pathology, Plant Breeding, Hybrid rice, Agronomy, Soil Science. The Scientists of IIRR explained the students about the research facilities, laboratories and services available for research on rice crop. Dr. B. Venkateswarlu, Former Director, ICAR-CRIDA and Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM were the chief guests for this programme and participated virtually and they addressed the students. Various competitions were conducted on this occasion viz., elocution, essay writing, poster presentation and quiz. Students enthusiastically participated in these competitions and won prizes. Dr. R.M. Sundaram, Director, ICAR-IIRR distributed the prizes and certificates to the winning students and presented mementos to the participating schools.
